German director Werner Herzog has presented two films in competition at this year’s Venice Film Festival. The first is “Bad Lieutenant: Port of Call New Orleans” with Nicholas Cage and Eva Mendes, the much debated remake of Abel Ferrara’s “Bad Lieutenant”. The film has been the subject of mixed reviews, with the director’s style receiving more praise than the whole operation itself. Herzog’s second flick is “My Son, My Son, What Have Ye Done”, a thriller starring William Dafoe and Brad Dourif. It has received good reviews, despite the overt influence of the American movie machine on Herzog’s style, who is rapidly becoming one of the world’s most independent and original directors.
