James Cameron’s new film Avatar is one of the most anticipated films of 2009. The film will receive an international release on the 18th December – 4 months away. The film is in compliance with various marketing avenues. The film’s official trailer, for example, has been released on the Internet in a variety of formats: HD, Ipod, YouTube (see below) and more. The two minute trailer has been conceived as a visual experience. There is almost no dialog, the soundtrack is occupied by pumping music in crescendo and one of the digital creatures created for the film speaks the only words: “this is great”. The special effects are quite amazing, and one can see here the brilliance and creativity in producing a completely believable, cgi-created, digital world.
The story is set 200 years into the future, as we read from the Avatar’s Planet Pandora Blog, “Avatar follows the story of Jake Sully (Sam Worthington) an injured war veteran who reluctantly ends up on Pandora, a moon orbiting a giant gas planet. Pandora has a lush, tropical rain forest, is rich in biodiversity and is inhabited by the Na’vi, a humanoid race with their own unique language and culture.”
Fantasy and ecological adventure for the director of Titanic, Terninator, Abysses, Aliens who had to wait for further development in CGI to bring this ten years project on the screen. Amongst the actors Sigourney Weaver, Giovanni Ribisi, Sam Worthington, check IMDB for the full cast list.
